Free Childcare for Disadvantaged 2-year-olds

With the Government commitment to provide funded childcare places to around 130,000 disadvantaged 2-year-olds by 2013, Mel Parks explores the benefits of childminders being part of the childcare mix. 

From 2014, local authorities will be providing funded childcare places for some 260,000, or around 40 per cent, of 2-year-olds. Childminders are ideal professionals to care for these children because of the support they can give in a warm, consistent home environment, and the close yet professional relationship they can build up with parents.
